In Which I Review... Black Stones of Ter Chadain by C.S. Yelle

King Englewood is dead. Logan Lassain, the Protector of Ter Chadain, has cleared the way for his sister, Teah, to claim the throne as the rightful Queen of Ter Chadain and cast out the invading Caltorian forces. But Teah cannot claim that throne. She is captive on a slave ship sailing to Caltoria with other magical slaves to have their fates decided by the evil Empress of Caltoria. The clear gem darkens in color once placed upon a magical’s forehead indicating the strength of their magic. Teah’s stone darkens to a deep black marking her as the strongest magical in Caltoria since her ancestor, the first Queen of Ter Chadain. This draws unwanted attention and puts her future in great peril. Logan and his small band of rescuers must hurry. Their quest is difficult. The cost is high. New allies are found. Old friends are lost…forever. Risking death at every turn, they rush to rescue Teah. But the only way Logan can save Teah and keep Ter Chadain from falling under Caltorian rule is by not only risking death, but risking something more precious…his freedom.

Wow. Wow. C.S. Yelle has managed to do that, wow me, yet again.  Black Stones of Ter Chadain, book 2 in the Protector of Ter Chadain series, captivated me even more so that book 1 in the series. The fantastical aspects of the story just got better, and the characters drew me in even further. Wow.

The fact that a fantasy novel drew me in is a great feat. Having both the first and second book draw me in? Amazing, especially since I am not big on modern fantasy novels. This book, like it's predecessor, is indeed a true fantasy novel.

I found myself attached to many of the characters, and felt great happiness and great loss at the circumstances surrounding them. 

Black Stones started off not far from where Reclaiming Ter Chadain ended, and I felt as if I weree sucked back into the kingdom. Where Logan and Teah went I went. I found myself actually resisting the temptation to read throughout the night just to soak in the events that were presented to me in the novel. 

One thing is certain, C.S. Yelle has created something special. I am proud to be able to read his words, and I happy that I got the chance to dwell in his fantastical kingdoms if even for a while. 

No need to drag it out, I gave this book, like book 1, five stars. This is a series worth investing in, and one I'm sure, after you read it's pages, you'll treasure. I also guarantee that the ending of each book will have you yearning for the next, because it definitely will.
